Peter Francisco wins the Title and Professional Ticket!

ABSF President, Mohammed Kammah (left) hands over the 2012 All African Singles Trophy to an elated Peter Francisco.

After a disappointing 6 Red Championship, Peter showed some of his previous form from year’s past as he eased through his latter stage matches in this year’s All Africa snooker championship. A close call against SA number two, Pierre Jordaan was the nearest anyone got to taking out the most experienced player in the tournament.

The semi-finals was pretty much one sided in both halves, as this year’s 6 Red finalist from Egypt, Mohamed Khairy took out the defending Champion, Wael Talaat, and it was pretty much the same in the other half, with Peter taking out Yaser Elsherbiny, also from Egypt.

Peter’s experience in the final was apparent and definitely gave him the edge over a somewhat jittery Khairy who was fearless in the earlier rounds. Khairy who took revenge against Ibrahim who he lost to in the final of the 6 Red and as mentioned, Wael in the semis.

The prize for this tournament which everyone was gunning for was the golden ticket to go and play in the professional circuit abroad for 2 years from 2013 against the world’s top professionals. Peter is elated with his victory, and South Africa wishes him all the best and we’re certain he will do the country, and Africa proud!

In the 3rd and 4th play off, it was defending champ Wael who won against his compatriot, Yaser Elsherbiny 5-3.

Prizegiving will take place tonight, and more photos from throughout the championship will be posted here, compliments of, and Andre du Toit.
